Baby's First Christmas

Ok, to begin: Two Saturdays before Christmas, we had the Hicken Christmas party, where we ate a good meal, and the cousins and families exchanged gifts. We received "The Elf on the Shelf" and much needed food storage! Van also got a bib and some spoons.
On Christmas Eve, after packing up all our presents, overnight items, and baby things, we quickly let Penny "open" her stocking (in it: a bone, a ball, and a chew toy), put her outside, and then it was off to my parents...
That night we ate yummy mexican food, had the children act out the Nativity (with baby Van playing the role of Baby Jesus), and my brothers sang "O Holy Night" for my mom. Van decided it would be a good idea to wake up every hour, mom not so much :) He must have been too excited for Santa to come. Around 6:30a.m. the house started stirring (something I was happy about since I didn't get much sleep)... The usual routine for the morning went as follows:
1. Read the story of Christ's birth, the first Christmas.

2. Wait in the room while mom and dad turn the fireplace on, set up the video camera, etc.
Snuggling Auntie Lin :)
3. Come up with strange ideas to keep the children occupied, because even though the fireplace is flipping a switch, and all the camera needs is the power button pushed, it really does seem to take such a LONG time!
4. OPEN PRESENTS! This was pretty funny! Van would try to put ribbon, paper, tissue and anything else he could grab in his mouth, and of course dad would do things like this...
One of the highlights of the day was when Kendyl snuck upstairs to eat some of Grandpa's yummy chocolates...
I got Ry a road bike and he got me diamond earrings :) Santa brought Van a highchair and plenty of baby food in his stocking (started him on baby food this last week!) Even though Christmastime brings lots of presents, lights, and decorations, the best part about this time of year is spending time with family, eating good food, and most importantly, reflecting on the birth of our Savior... it really is the most wonderful time of the year!
